Gigs of the weekend - Field Music, Juliet Turner, Star Wars In Concert

Friday - Field Music, Dublin Crawdaddy

Sunderland may not be known as a hotbed of musical creativity but it's where Field Music call home.
The four-piece, which comprises of brothers David and Peter Brewis, along with Ian Black and Dosdale, have three albums to their name, including the ambitious double-disc Field Music (Measure), which was released last month. Their latest effort came almost as a surprise, as rumours were rife that the group was finished after the Brewis brothers both released well-received solo albums.
Their work is defined by distinct, complex arrangements and vocal harmonies and they're also known for their consistency, with their work to date being unfalteringly impressive. As well as tonight's gig at Crawdaddy, The Field will also be playing the Pavilion in Belfast tomorrow before jetting off across the Atlantic for a North American tour.
Saturday: Juliet Turner – The Cherrytree, Walkinstown

Juliet Turner is a name familiar to many because of the success of her second album, Burn the Black Suit. It went double platinum in Ireland but, whilst she's had success with her recordings since then, she's never reclaimed the limelight in the same manner. Which is mystifying, really, especially when taking into account that her 2008 release, People Have Names, is a superior body of work. Granted, for the past few years she's been juggling her music career with a degree course in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, which means priorities have shifted from plugging albums to swotting for exams.
Sunday: Star Wars In Concert - Dublin O2
It's the return of the franchise that keeps on giving, this time with a full orchestra playing the music of the movies while the visuals are presented on the big screen. With a full travelling exhibition also in tow, it promises to be a must for the army of fans - so much so that they've added an early show at 1.30pm after the evening one sold out.
