Getting dropped by your label after releasing just one album certainly isn't the best start to a music career but that's exactly what happened to Brendan Benson when sales of One Mississippi fell short of expectation. The sales certainly didn't reflect on the quality of the album itself, which was actually a bloody good example of what a rock album should sound like. The experience did set Benson back apiece and it took six years for him to produce the follow-up. Lapolco finally got him the recognition he deserved and since then he's released a further two albums. In between all that, he found time to hook-up with Jack White to form the Raconteurs.
Gig of the Day: Brendan Benson – Dublin Vicar St

He's so stranger to these shores, having played his fair share of venues and festivals here in the past. This time around, Benson will be plugging his My Old, Familiar Friend LP, which was released last year.
