Gig of the Day: Finlay Quaye

Finlay Quaye had immediate success on the release of his first album, Maverick A Strike, back in 1997. The LP generated a brace of UK Top 20 singles and earned Quaye a Brit Award for 'Best Male Solo Artist' and a Mojo Award for 'Best Reggae Act'. However, while he's continuously earned critical praise since then, he's found it difficult to recreate that initial commercial success. While he's no longer signed to a major label, the Scottish singer-songwriter now has a further six albums under his belt, along with a number of EPs. He's also an in-demand collaborator and has worked with the likes of William Orbit and Beth Orton and is currently planning a project with Stereo MCs.
Whilst Quaye has few opportunities to perform in larger venues these days, his music is more conducive to intimate settings and this should make his appearance at The Pavilion something to savour.
