Gig of The Day - Seasick Steve Vicar Street Tuesday 23rd

Seasick Steve

You could say Seasick Steve has seen it all. Born in the 1940's, the gruff bluesmonger spent his younger days as a hobo; travelling around, hopping freight trains and finding the odd casual job here and there – somehow managing to befriend legendary figures such as Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell along the way. It wasn't until the 1980's that he semi-settled and began working as a producer and studio engineer – a job that lead to him working with Modest Mouse on several of their recordings. It took until 2006 – when he was already in his 60's, to start recording his own music, however. But once he began, his career didn't remain low-key for long. Jules Holland invited him to perform on his new year's eve Hootenanny TV show on BBC 2 and his popularity skyrocketed from there.

Seasick Steve is currently touring in support of his Man From Another Time LP, and tonight's date at Vicar St. is the second at the venue, with the first night having sold out – a testament to just how popular this old dog has become.
