Rough - Axis Ballymun
One of the standout highlights of last Autumn’s Absolute Fringe Festival in Dublin was THEATREclub’s Rough, and luckily enough, those of us who got caught up in the tizz of the extensive programme of the Fringe Fest and missed the production are being given a second chance. Written by Grace Dyas, this tale of disaffected youth in today’s Dublin won the Fishamble New Writing Award.
Rough sees two young girls discussing nights out in Dublin, recounting tales of casual sex, double vodkas, partying hard and dropping out. These are tales of waking up in the wrong neighbourhood and trying to find their way home. And the way to themselves; as they try to be thin, try to be good, try to drink less, and ultimately try to meet the right man and be happy in contemporary Dublin.
Rough is contemporary and fresh, comments on the lives the young of Dublin are currently living and overall is socially engaged whilst succeeding in also being entertaining and moving as we follow the trials and tribulations of the girls on the town.
The entrance fee is only €7/5 as THEATREclub endeavour to welcome new audiences to theatre and subvert the current somewhat elitist perception of the form.
Rough is at axis Ballymun on Feb 25th and 26th at 8pm.
