Tommy Tiernan’s epic trek through the country over recent months will continue with a series of gigsin Cork this March, beginning in the Charleville Park Hotel on the 18th. How Cork folk take to his assertions that the local accent sounds like a ‘traveller trying to speak French’ – especially with a Paddy’s Day hangover clouding their judgement – will be interesting to see first and foremost.
Other dates in places like Midleton GAA Club and The Grain Store at Ballymaloe are typical of Tiernan’s approach over recent months; playing smaller, interesting and more intimate venues and it’s a challenge he’s no doubt taking on with relish.
Indeed, having walked around the country, played the longest comedy gig of all time, started from scratch in America and seemingly offended every do-gooder we have across the country with various lines on everything from Down Syndrome to all manner of religious arguments, people around the country are still coming out to see him in their droves. In the main that’s because he’s an unpredictable, at times quite brilliant comedian and in the end that’s usually all that really matters.
